M2D Racing and Canadian National Autism Foundation Join Forces for GBGP
Post by: CanadianRacingOnline on September 13, 2012, 11:58:26 AM

( London , ON ) The M2D Racing Team has joined forces with the Canadian National Autism Foundation to promote the organization during the inaugural 12-hour Grand Bend Grand Prix at the Grand Bend Motorplex on Saturday September 15th.The M2D Racing Team of Terry Meyer, Jamie Maudsley, Steve March, and Jay Doerr and their Honda Prelude ChumpCar will be displaying the logo, and have agreed to donate any prize money received back to the foundation.

Team member Jamie Maudsley said, “We’re excited about being able to do something like this to assist with Paul Reilly, Tina Fougere and the folks from the Canadian National Autism Foundation.I was lucky enough to meet some members of the foundation team through their awareness and fundraising event at Delaware Speedway, and found out how many speedways that they have been to this summer.Within our team it’s a disability that some of us are very familiar with and if we can support their campaign by helping them out through racing, it’s the least we can do.”

Tina Fougere of the Canadian National Autism Foundation spoke about the group’s involvement in motorsports, “We have had great success with all of the raceways that we have had our autism day at with our promotion and bring awareness to new demographics that we have not penetrated. We have helped a lot of those out with autism information and parents that need some help.We also love the fact that having another network base to spread the awareness of autism out there is so beneficial to those of us living with loved ones with autism to better understand the differences of autism and how to help out that they are informed with more important information.”
As for the group, she explained, “Our Foundation members are all volunteers and we are here to help those with needed information and to help out with research money for Canadian Based research by events that are put on to raise funds and other initiatives of the foundation. We allocate monies out to some of those who submit their grant submissions.”

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, in the areas of social interaction and communication skills Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties in verbal (expressive) and non-verbal (receptive) communication, social interactions, and often engage in repetitive patterns of behaviour. The disorder makes it hard for them to communicate with others and relate to the outside world. In some cases, aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior may be present.
Autism affects 1 in 88 children. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with cancer, AIDS and diabetes combined.
