Comedians Allyson Smith, Nile Seguin and Jim McNally

Jim McNally

Although Canadian and American audiences have been howling at Jim McNally for over a decade now, he is becoming more and more recognized lately after stellar performances at the Ha!lifax Comedy Festival and on CTV's "Comedy NOW!". In 2005, he was the first comedian to get a standing ovation at Ottawa's Absolute Comedy and was asked back to headline thier first anniversary weekend. The following is his 'bio blurb', which describes him pretty well, but really, you've gotta see him.

Jim is a comedian with an irreverent outlook that blends big city wit with small town cheekiness. His Irish, story-telling roots shine through in his performances which weave observations of the everyday into stories from his own life to highlight the absurdities of the world we live in. Jim's spontaneous and engaging style, quick wit, and knack for seeing the outlandish make him a natural, versatile performer who leaves audiences doubled over with laughter and wanting more.

Nile Seguin

It has been a pretty great year for Nile. He spent most of the year performing with Sugar Sammy as part of the first bilingual comedy stand up show You’re Gonna Rire (over 50 performances in Montréal alone) and this year was the first comic to perform at both the Festival Juste Pour Rire and it’s English counterpart Just For Laughs in the same year.

Besides performing to critical acclaim, Nile recently completed the Triple Crown of Canadian Comedy Festivals going to the Just for Laughs Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Halifax Comedy Festival in a single year. He also was a part of the Sudbury Comedy Festival and the Cottage Country Comedy Festival.

Nile’s style works on stage, television, radio and film. Nile has written for award winning national television for shows such as This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the Gemini Award wining The Hour (where he was a regular on air contributor). He also made his first film appearance in the critically acclaimed indie comedy Ham and Cheese. He is a regular on air contributor for CBC Radio and is also a writer on the radio sketch comedy show The Irrelevant Show which took home the bronze medal at the International Radio Broadcasting Awards in New York City.

Nile has performed at the Boston Comedy Festival, has twice been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award and recently taped his first television special.

There is some other stuff I could mention but I’m tired of trying to impress you. It demeans us both.

Allyson Smith

Allyson Smith has been tickling Canada’s comedy scene from the moment she put down the chalk brush and picked up a mic. With her sassy blend of in-your-face stand-up and hilariously insightful commentary, playing to packed rooms is just another day at the office for this former high-school teacher, whose credits include CTV’s Comedy Now, MuchMusic’s Video on Trial, CBC’s The Debaters, the prestigious Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and just about everywhere in between.

As a young‘un, Allyson knew she was weird. While other little girls were flailing around in baggy ballet leotards, she was introducing her fellow sixth graders to power of a perfectly timed punch line. As talent shows grew into theatre and sketch comedy, Allyson’s calling became clear: she was going to make people laugh. And laugh they did.

A natural born entertainer with the pipes to prove it, Allyson was soon leaving locals laugh-drunk in sketchy bars across the prairies. No room was too seedy for Miss Smith.

But it wasn’t long before dodgy backroom deals turned into legitimate front-of-the-house bookings and a packed dance card of appearances at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Seattle Comedy Contest and Yuk Yuk’s across Canada.

Today, the “embarrassingly varied” teacher-cum-comic is a sought-after fan favourite, headlining shows from coast to coast and popping up in living rooms wherever there’s a cable signal…often uninvited but always charming (*wink*).

Despite emerging as one of Canada’s rising stand-up stars, Allyson has remained true to her talent show roots. Her down-to-earth nature and girl-next-door approachability have earned her the respect and friendship of fans and fellow comics alike. When she isn’t smiling in the spotlight, you’ll find her growing Canadian comedy from behind the scenes, hosting open mic nights, yammering with virgins or sniffing out dicey rooms that could use a few laughs.

Now, who’s ready for detention?

SMS Machine Tools Night - Saturday June 15th at Merrittville Speedway promises to be a great night out for the whole family - especially since it’s the first Autograph Night of the new season benefiting the Canadian National Autism Foundation.

The on track action will be bolstered by the second Home Track Event of the 2013 Duel on the Dirt Big 6 Series for the Hoosier Stocks. The Main Event will join events for the Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions – the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds, Rick’s Delivery Sportsman, J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.

“Bringing the Duel on the Dirt Event and our first Autograph Night together on SMS Night should make for an entertaining night … and a packed house,” relates (Merrittville General Manager) Erica Bicknell-Jones, “we are honored once again to assist the Canadian National Autism Foundation.”

In the first Duel on the Dirt Home Track event – part of the Zavitz Financial Strategies and Employee Benefits Victoria Day Celebration back on May 20th – Kevin Knapp came home the winner.

“It was pretty wild out there,” remarked Kevin Knapp in Victory Lane a little more than 2 weeks ago.It will be pretty wild for race fans on June 15th as well when the entire pit area fills the front-stretch for the Autograph Session.

“KIDS RACE is all about having family fun for a great cause," said the CNAF President Tina Fougere,   "It is all about family for me and accepting our loved ones with autism. We couldn't ask for a better place in the Niagara Region to host our family event than with the wonderful people at Merrittville Speedway who have opened their doors, but most importantly their hearts, to our cause.” READ MORE link above
